holiday photo cards

Sunday, November 6, 2011

our little family finally had our holiday photo session with my niece, ailynne yesterday. she was very patient with us especially with an uncooperative 4 year old who preferred to play with his mighty sword rather than posing for portraits. really? nevertheless, we had so much fun and within 35 minutes we wrapped it up and hoped for wonderful shots!

while waiting for the proofs, i am having a hard time picking our family photo christmas card design. those lucky family and friends receiving our cards this year, you will know what we picked. and yes, we'll vote on it. including the little one!

if you have not decided on your's yet, here are some fabulous ones i found online :

an aqua and orange giraffe first birthday

Friday, November 4, 2011

today's party feature is such a cute first birthday celebration for my dear friend marie's little girl, lauren. it's loaded with bright colors and pattern and some of the cutest party details!

here's what marie had to share (take note of all her awesome vendors!) :

"Lauren's birthday is a week before Halloween so I immediately thought of using the color orange for her first birthday party. However, I did not want her first birthday to be centered on a Halloween theme, so I scoured the internet for inspiration. Lauren loves her Sophie La Girafe toy so when I saw this Goofy Giraffe invitation from Tiny Prints, I was smitten. The invitation is meant for boys (I think) so I decided to use the color aqua instead of blue. I also wanted to incorporate the chevron pattern somewhere so it was serendipitous that I found this cotton twill fabric in chevron and aqua from fabric.com. You'll see it used throughout the party: from the treats table and mantle backdrops to the guest table toppers.

I thought of designing the other party printables but it isn't something I do everyday and it was only a few more weeks before the party, so I decided to hand over the reins to the experts. I chose FrogPrince Paperie to design the banner, milk cartons, treat boxes, water bottle labels, square tent cards and two inch circles. The latter was used as cupcake toppers, thank you circles tied to favors and stickers for the party hats, orange treat bags, and clear beverage cups.

Scrapbook paper in an orange and white chevron pattern was used to line the white melamine trays that held the water bottles, cups, plates, napkins and plastic flatware. I also used scrapbook paper to create the childrens' party hats."

more from marie : "I decorated the fireplace mantle as a backdrop for Lauren's high chair and photos for our family of four. Anchored by an aqua chevron fabric backdrop, I hung pomettes from Pomflair, wrapped a 23 inch paper mache letter L in orange polka dot fabric, and framed recent studio photos of the birthday girl. I also added a vase of an orange crafted flower also found on the guest tables"

marie's husband created the wood frame for the backdrop and then she covered it with the chevron fabric. it turned out pretty fantastic and all dressed-up! oh, and those sweets are tempting!

a clown came for entertainment and kids had fun with face painting, moon bounce, balloon animals, pinatas and more! for the bigger kids and adults, a photo booth was set-up for some crazy photo session everyone can enjoy!
