coastal living

Sunday, March 30, 2014

with the warm weather staying here for good, i am dreaming of beach trips and lake boat rides. or simply at home, making it a coastal-inspired lifestyle with nautical interiors inspired by the sand and sea.

and of course, leave it to everyone's favorite store target to get your must-haves at affordable prices (scroll down below for my picks) :

july 4th is a few days away and this party theme is perfect for a party by the pool or beach!

i've "met" cristina (via blossom) through our mutual online blog friend albertina (mimosa lane blog) who i've mentioned quite a bit here in the blog before. cristina and i both share the love for party planning and designing and her latest nautical brunch with the kiddos is so adorable, i just had to share!

here's what she has to say :

"after living in the coast of maine for 8 years, i felt inspired to style a brunch reminiscent of our family summer days spent sailing, strolling and biking around lobster fishing towns like bar harbor and camden"

"the focal point of the table was a gorgeous sail boat placed on a vanilla-raspberry cake, i framed it with hanging a yellow flag banner that added a pop of color to the red, blue and white tablescape."

"i use props like a fisherman figurine, a wooden anchor, life guards and lobster buoys that i have been collecting from antique shops or small gift shops to create a true nautical atmosphere. i tied nautical knots on the hobnail cakestands where vanilla cupcakes were displayed. nautical bowls filled with tricolor popcorn displayed red, blue and yellow candle torches. i love how the hot air balloon paper lantern gave the table a nostalgic feel."

"the food served consisted of savory and sweet bite size treats. i use petite cups to showcase chocolate chip mini cheesecakes, lemon petit fours, mini cream cheese tomato-chive sandwiches and quiche lorraine. the fruit salads were served in square mini glasses."

truly magical and nautical!
thanks cristina for sharing these special brunch with us!
lastly, don't forget to follow SCF via BLOGLOVIN!

jack's marina and bait shop party

Monday, May 20, 2013

since it's birthday week celebration over here in our household, thought i'd feature some really original and amazing parties i've seen lately. first up today is of my friend nina's son jack's first birthday party last year. the jack's marina and bait shop - themed birthday party was inspired by it's party location, his grandparent's gorgeous lakeside home.

the picturesque backyard with marina and dock is the perfect party venue for this special first birthday. i LOVE the nautical feel of the entire party with it's flag bunting decor, anchor logo, the fun hunt-for-shells activity and boatrides.

the huge backyard was the setting for long tables dressed up in gingham tablecloths and giant balloons. so festive!

this whole theme can also be perfect for a memorial weekend celebration if you have plans to hit the beach, lake or the pool. most public pools officially open memorial day weekend, so it's the perfect way to celebrate summer!

the cutest sweet sweet birthday boy with his beautiful mama. can't believe this was just last year!

for the complete details and sources for jack's first birthday, please visit nina's blog post. thanks again nina  for sharing this special celebration and can't wait to see what you have up your sleeves for his second birthday!

slade's shrimp shack 1st birthday party

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

i am always amazed by so much creativity and talent out there. this next party feature was put out by rockstar momma, meredith, who did an incredible job putting together her cutest son's first birthday party - SLADE'S SHRIMP SHACK! talking about a brilliant theme - so much fun!

if you recall, meredith was responsible for creating aston's screenprinted birthday shirt and tshirt party favors and i'm not surprised at all with this amazing creative party details she came up with for sweet slade's party!

here's the custom invite by hayley hardcastle

a shrimp shack party will not be complete without a shrimp boat!
so cool!

meredith found blue butcher paper and decorated their fence to give it an ocean look complete with underwater sea creatures!

this one, the kiddos get to color slade's shrimp boat!

i just love this - nautical vintage finds as part of the decor and they hold crayons for the kids to color the shrimp boat!

yummy shrimp baits!

dessert table called the "bait shop" - clever!

the sweet sweet brothers carson and slade and daddy!

happy happy birthday SLADE! you slayed that cake!
